Lessons From Animals--"Delight"

"Praise be to the Lord your God, who has delighted in you…"
1 Kings 10:9a

My dogs just keep getting goofier and goofier. Lately, when we go to the playground, they've begun "stalking" each other--when one comes running, the other quickly huddles down low, waits for the other to come near, and then jumps up in an attempt to tackle! And this is only the start of their shenanigans; they do all manner of funny things.Look at me! I'm delightful!

Perhaps even more funny is my reaction: I laugh. Not that laughing is a weird thing, in-and-of itself; but when you're standing alone in the middle of a field, laughing out loud, it's bound to raise some eyebrows among the passers-by. But I can't help it--I laugh when I watch my dogs play. It warms my heart to see them; I delight in them.

The Scriptures say that God delights in us. He looks down on us, and takes delight in what He sees. Perhaps, from time-to-time, He even laughs. Psalm 149:4 says, "For the Lord takes delight in His people; He crowns the humble with salvation." Zephaniah 3:17 says, "The Lord your God is with you, He is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing."

God delights in you! You are delightful in God's sight. You are of great worth to God; He looks down, and He delights in you as His child. And maybe--just maybe--in that great delight, He even laughs with you.

In Christ,
