Lessons From Animals--"Voice"

"My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow Me."
John 10:27

Across the street from my house is a large playground, part of the grade school. I often take Kasey and Annie, my two dogs, over there to let them run. In fact, next week I'll be sharing a little more about that; but this week I'd like to share something interesting about one of my cats.I want to come too!

I've mentioned previously that I've begun letting my cats wander outside. The other night, I was across the street at the schoolyard with Kasey and Annie. Kasey and Annie were running; it was dark, and I couldn't quite see them, so I called out to them. Annie came promptly, but Kasey required a few more calls before she came. The surprise, though, came when I turned around…and found that one of my cats, Sneezy, had ALSO heard me calling--and had decided to come visit from across the street! He had heard my voice, and came when I called.

In John 10:2 - 5, Jesus describes Himself as a Shepherd, and describes His relationship with us as follows:

"The man who enters by the gate is the shepherd of his sheep. The watchman opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice. But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize a stranger's voice."

Are you part of Christ's flock? When you hear His voice, do you follow? Jesus knows us each by name, and calls us by our names. Listen to the call. Listen, and follow.

In Christ,
